One of Africa’s biggest telecommunication companies, MTN Group, appoints Rahul De as the new CEO for MTN Liberia Lonestar Cell. Starting November 1, 2020, Rahul will take over the leadership of the company from Uche Ofodile who left in July to become the CEO of MTN Benin.

Prior to his appointment, Rahul served as the chief marketing officer when he joined MTN Ghana in 2011 and also in the same position upon joining MTN Nigeria. When appointed in 2015, Rahul replaced Bayo Adekambi who left the company on a sabbatical leave.

MTN Group is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer for @MTNlonestar. @rahul_de1, the current Chief Marketing Officer of @MTNNG, will take the helm at the company on November 1, 2020. We're #goodtogether.

While he served MTN Nigeria, Rahul was said to have led the team driving digital transformation in the country, from a voice and data centric organisation to one which drives a digital and fintech future.

Additionally, before his appointment in MTN Nigeria, Rahul held senior leadership roles across India, Malaysia and Africa, driving growth and leading business transformation in hyper-competitive industries.

Appointed in July to take the position of MTN Group president and CEO, Ralph Mupita stated that “Rahul is a seasoned leader renowned for driving innovative digital and FinTech advancement in our business and in the telecommunications industry.”

A statement made by the company reveals that the general manager, business intelligence and strategy, Anthony Obi, will serve as the acting chief marketing officer for MTN Nigeria until another appointment is made.

In another news, Lonestar Cell MTN recently introduced a mobile voice and data surcharge based on the government’s regulations and directives.

“The Management of Lonestar Cell MTN wishes to notify the public that in accordance with LTA-Order 0016-02-25-19 issued by the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), a surcharge on mobile voice on-net (Lonestar to Lonestar calls) and mobile data services has been introduced,” the company said in a statement.

The surcharges are on On-net (Lonestar-to-Lonestar) voice calls which will cost US$0.008/min (or 0.8 cents/min) while data (per MB) is pegged at US$0.00065/MB (or US$0.065 cents/MB).
