Startups are invited to apply for the UNWTO global competition 2020

United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) global competition 2020 is the agency responsible for promoting sustainable growth with the purpose of encouraging the global innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem to embrace sustainability and deliver impact during the United Nations Decade of Nation starting this year.

This initiative sets out to reach a common goal, to set innovation at the forefront of sustainable development in corporations and destinations by bringing together stakeholders from a variety of sectors across the economy. Given the sector’s capacity to create jobs and increase inclusiveness, UNWTO global competition 2020 invites startups to participate in its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative.

Eligibility

Startups who meet the following  criteria can apply:

  • Innovative in nature by providing value-added solutions
  • Be sustainability-driven
  • Have the potential for international growth and potential to be applied in corporations and destinations
  • Be an early-stage or Series A startup
  • Have a tested pilot and business plan
  • Have been accelerated before
  • Have a full-team

Evaluation criteria

Participating startups will be assessed according to their:

  • Contribution to the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Ease of value capture via collaboration with the startup
  • Potential business impact
  • Maturity of the product/technology
  • Maturity of the team and the organisation
  • Partnership readiness

Benefits

  • Winning startups would be able to pitch at the UNWTO demo day
  • One-on-one and in-group sessions focused on Intellectual Property (IP), sustainability, business and leadership
  • Access to technological support
  • Connection to the UNWTO innovation network
  • Potential pilot project with private sector collaborations and institutions

How to apply

  • Make an attractive pitch deck in English of not more than 15 slides
  • List your web page, social media users and contact information
  • Have in mind the category or Sustainable Development Goal you will apply for
  • Fill out the application form from the UNWTO’s global competition 2020 website

The application deadline is Sunday, September 20, 2020
