Elaborating its progressive work for further understanding on rich history, shared legacy and spirit of the Silk Roads, UNESCO has launched an initiative themed ‘Silk Roads Youth Research Grant’.
The programme is organised in context of UNESCO’s Silk Roads and MOST programmes included in its social and human sciences programme.
Designed to expand studies on the Silk Roads’ shared heritage, the programme seeks to support young researchers who would address areas of academic study related to the shared heritage and plural identities of the Silk Roads.
Internal diversity, and potential in contemporary societies for creativity, intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, regional and international cooperation, and ultimately sustainable peace and development are areas the programme also seeks to explore.
The proposed research may include, but not limited to, the following themes associated with the Silk Roads shared heritage: science and technology, traditional know-how and craftsmanship, religion and spirituality, language and literature, arts and music, traditional sports and games.
The Silk Road is an expansive region composed of a network of maritime and land routes which originated in East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Benefits
12 grants of $10,000 will be given to deserved proposals. This is based on the strength of the proposed research and its potential to further understanding of interactions and exchanges taking place across the Silk Roads, and the concrete elements resulting from them.
